Technical Issues • GZDoom 4.14.0 sometimes freezes up for a second during gameplay

Some time ago, I downloaded the latest version of GZDoom (4.14.0) which was released in December 17, 2024. As I tested it out, the source port would sometimes freeze for about a second as I played through some Doom II maps. It even happens as I tested out The Ultimate Doom with this new version of GZDoom. It's not too frequent, but I'm not sure what could be causing this issue.

I eventually decided to switch to Vulkan and decrease the Max FPS to 140 in the video settings. It still sometimes freezes up, but now it only freezes up for about 1/10 of a second, so it's wasn't as bad as before I switched from OpenGL.

I then decided to test out gameplay with an older version of GZDoom, as I chose version 4.7.1. It didn't freeze one time on that version, even with a maximum framerate of 200 FPS and the OpenGL rendering API.

The worst part about all of this is that I'm running GZDoom on a gaming PC I bought brand new in September of 2024. Even worse, I don't really have this problem on more graphically advanced games, so I don't understand how an advanced gaming PC could have such issues (someone on the Doomworld Forums said it could be an issue with the NVIDIA driver).

So what could be the issue here?

Here's some information about my current gaming PC:

Model: CyberPowerPC - Gamer Master Gaming Desktop (GMA5400BSTV11)
Operating System: Windows 11
Drives: 2 TB SSD NVMe (with two volumes), 8 TB SSD NVMe (with one volume)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series (DDR4, 128 GB, 3200 MT/s)
